Esri Summer Camp 2012 for Rwanda's Future

Supporting the planning of rural settlements with GIS in greater Kigali area

From 1 to 7 December 2012 Esri Germany and Esri Rwanda in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Education and CGIS-NUR will conduct a GIS summer camp in Kigali Greater Area. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a key technology of the 21st century.

In 2012, this project week is about the process of planning rural settlements conducted by the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC). Students will collect data in the field, using GPS and questionnaires. The resulting maps will be used for both printouts and online. "Collect data - analyse - create maps - and put them online!" Analogue to Camps in other countries, the goal of the Esri Summer Camp 2012 in Rwanda is to showcase how students can use GIS technology to study the process of rural planning and create a result which can be seen worldwide.
