Esri Summer Camp 2012 successfully completed

Esri Rwanda in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Government conducted its 5th Esri Summer Camp under the theme "Planning of rural settlements supported by GIS".

Out of 115 applicants, the 21 best GIS students from Rwandan secondary schools had been selected. They collected GPS data in the field and used questionnaires to plan two new settlements in the Greater Kigali Area. Close cooperation with the local authorities and residents supported data capture and the planning process. The final results were presented to local and Ministry authorities and published on ArcGIS Online during the closing ceremony.

The online maps can be found here: Rudakabukirwa OSM and Satellite, Gisharara OSM and Satellite.

The findings and results of the GIS project week will help the Ministry of Local Government to fulfil their vision to reduce the gap in accessing infrastructures and services in rural areas of Rwanda.
